Demolition by implosion of the Riviera Hotel and Casino

The Riviera Hotel and Casino, a long-standing property on the Las Vegas Strip, closed in 2015 and was demolished by controlled implosion on May 13, 2016. The implosion and removal of the Riviera's towers and signage were widely photographed and reported, and the event is frequently cited in accounts of the Strip's redevelopment and changing skyline. The former Riviera site has since been part of larger redevelopment plans for the north Strip. The implosion remains a notable recent example of large-scale demolition in Las Vegas.
