Fillmore Auditorium and Bill Graham's 1960s promotions

The Fillmore Auditorium became a central venue for San Francisco's 1960s rock and psychedelic music scene under promoter Bill Graham. From the mid-1960s Graham staged concerts there featuring acts such as the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company, Jimi Hendrix, and Jefferson Airplane. The venue is closely associated with the development of the "San Francisco Sound" and with the era's distinctive psychedelic concert poster art. The Fillmore at this location continues to operate as a music venue.
