Atlantic Avenue Elevated dismantled

The Atlantic Avenue Elevated was an elevated railway that ran along Boston's waterfront and operated from 1901 until passenger service ended in 1938; the structure was removed by the early 1940s. It formed part of Boston's elevated railway network and physically altered the Atlantic Avenue streetscape while it existed. Its demolition removed elevated rail from the downtown waterfront and changed the visual and transportation character of the area.
