Fort Mason Center / Old Fort Mason (historic military port and arts center)

Fort Mason originated as a U.S. Army post in the mid-19th century and became a principal port of embarkation for U.S. troops bound for the Pacific during World War II. Large portions of the former military facilities were later transferred to civilian use and redeveloped as Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. The site is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and retains historic piers, warehouses, and parade grounds now used for cultural events and public waterfront access.
