The Dakota - John Lennon's Residence and Site of His Death

The Dakota (1 West 72nd Street) was John Lennon's residence in New York City and is the location outside of which he was shot and killed on December 8, 1980. The building is a designated National Historic Landmark and is widely associated with Lennon's life in New York. The nearby Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park was later created in his memory across from the Dakota's entrance.
