Luzhniki Palace of Sports

The Luzhniki Palace of Sports, located in Moscow, was a prominent sports arena that played a significant role in the city's athletic history. Opened in 1956 with a capacity of 13,700, it hosted numerous prestigious events, including the 1980 Summer Olympics and multiple world championships in various sports such as ice hockey, gymnastics, and volleyball. The arena was particularly known as the home of HC Dynamo Moscow until 2000. After undergoing major renovations in 2002, its capacity was reduced to 11,500, and it continued to host significant events, including the 2005 World Figure Skating Championships. However, in December 2023, the arena was demolished, surprising many locals, as plans for a new venue on the site were announced. The Luzhniki Palace of Sports was also a cultural hotspot, featuring concerts by renowned artists like Rammstein and Depeche Mode, making it a notable landmark for both sports and entertainment enthusiasts.
