Beaconsfield House

Beaconsfield House, located in Hong Kong's Central district, was a notable government office building constructed in 1963. It served as the home for the Information Services Department until its demolition in 1995, making way for the Cheung Kong Center. Originally, the site was home to the Beaconsfield Arcade, built in 1878, and was named after British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. The building featured a utilitarian design typical of the 1960s and housed various military and public services, including mess halls and a post office. The redevelopment of the area sparked controversy due to its private sale to Cheung Kong Holdings, leading to the construction of a large commercial complex and public amenities.
