San Fernando Cathedral crypt and tombs of early settlers

San Fernando Cathedral, founded in 1731 and located on Main Plaza, contains interior chapels and tombs where some of the Canary Islanders (Isleños) who helped found San Antonio are buried. The cathedral's historic interior spaces, including these burial sites, are less prominent to casual passersby than the building's exterior facade on the plaza. The cathedral is documented as one of the oldest continuously operating religious sites in Texas and the southwestern United States.
