Menger Hotel bar and the Rough Riders recruitment

In 1898 Theodore Roosevelt met informally with volunteer recruits in the Menger Hotel bar during the formation of the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry, later known as the Rough Riders. The hotel today highlights that association in tours and displays. The event is a documented part of San Antonio's role in the Spanish–American War.
