Fortress House

Fortress House was a notable government building located at 23 Savile Row in London, constructed between 1949 and 1950. Designed by Anthony Lloyd, it featured an austere style with classical motifs and was characterized by its symmetrical 'H' plan. Initially housing various government ministries, it became the headquarters of English Heritage from 1971 until its closure in 2006. Despite efforts to preserve it, Fortress House was demolished in 2009, making way for a new mixed-use development. The site is now marked by a public art sculpture, adding a contemporary touch to the historic Savile Row area.
