Columbus Theatre (Providence, Rhode Island)

The Columbus Theatre, located in the historic Broadway–Armory District of Providence, Rhode Island, is a unique movie theater and concert venue that has a rich history dating back to its opening in 1926. Designed in a 19th-century Italianate style by architect Oreste DiSaia, it originally showcased vaudeville and silent films. After various ownership changes and renovations, it has evolved to host a diverse range of performances, including live music and film screenings. The venue features two theaters, accommodating 200 and 800 guests, and is operated by the Columbus Cooperative, which includes members of the local folk band The Low Anthem. Although it faced challenges over the years, including a temporary closure for renovations, the Columbus Theatre remains a cultural landmark in Providence, attracting both tourists and locals with its eclectic programming and historic charm.
