Closure and restoration of the Fox Theatre

The Fox Theatre at 2211 Woodward Avenue closed to regular performances in 1978 and stood unused for years amid demolition threats. A grassroots preservation campaign and restoration effort saved the building, and it reopened in 1988 as a restored performing arts venue. The theater is one of the largest surviving movie palaces from the Fox West Coast chain and remains an active concert and event hall.
