Sears, Roebuck and Company Complex

The Sears, Roebuck and Company Complex, located in North Lawndale, Chicago, is a historic site that played a pivotal role in the development of American retail from 1906 to 1993. Originally serving as the headquarters and mail order operations for Sears, the complex was once the largest commercial building in the world. Although most of the original 40-acre site has been redeveloped, three key buildings remain: the Sears Merchandise Building Tower, the Administration Building, and the Power House, which have been adaptively reused for community purposes.
