Fremont Troll

The Fremont Troll is a public sculpture installed beneath the north end of the Aurora Bridge in 1990, created by artists Steve Badanes, Will Martin, Donna Walter, and Ross Whitehead with community volunteers. It was commissioned as part of an effort to rehabilitate the under-bridge space and has since become a well-known piece of local folklore and a frequent photo subject. The sculpture clutches an actual Volkswagen Beetle and is often cited in accounts of Fremont's quirky neighborhood identity.
