Emma Lazarus' 'The New Colossus' Plaque at the Statue of Liberty

Poet Emma Lazarus wrote the sonnet 'The New Colossus' in 1883; a bronze plaque bearing the poem's text was installed inside the Statue of Liberty's pedestal in 1903. The poem's lines 'Give me your tired, your poor…' have become closely associated with the Statue as a symbol of immigration to the United States.
