Sidney R. Yates Federal Building

The Sidney R. Yates Federal Building, located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., is a historic structure built between 1878 and 1880 in the Romanesque style. Originally constructed for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, it has served various federal agencies over the years, including auditors from the Departments of Navy, Treasury, and State. The building is notable for its architectural significance and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. After renovations in the late 1980s, it became home to the USDA Forest Service. The building was renamed in 1999 to honor Congressman Sidney Richard Yates, who played a key role in establishing the nearby United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. A working clock was added to the tower in 2017, restoring a feature from the original design.
