Woodward Houses

The Woodward Houses, located in Wilmington, Delaware, are two historic homes dating back to the mid-18th century. The first, built around 1745, features a striking quarried granite structure, while the second, constructed around 1760, showcases a stuccoed stone design. Both homes exemplify Georgian architectural style and are linked to Joseph Woodward, a Quaker ropemaker. A fascinating legend suggests that one of the houses contains a hearthstone from the platform where Thomas Jefferson read the Declaration of Independence.
