Washington Monument (once the world's tallest structure)

The Washington Monument was the tallest structure in the world from its completion in 1884 until the Eiffel Tower was finished in 1889. It stands approximately 555 feet (169 meters) tall and was the tallest stone structure and obelisk in the world at the time. The monument occupies a central site on the National Mall and remains a defining feature of Washington, DC's skyline. It is administered by the National Park Service.
