Dar al-Hajar

Dar al-Hajar, meaning 'Stone House' or 'Rock Palace', is a stunning former royal palace located in Wadi Dhar, just 15 kilometers from Sanaa, Yemen. Built in 1920 as a summer retreat for Imam Yahya Muhammad Hamid ed-Din, it stands atop a structure dating back to 1786. This architectural marvel, constructed from black basalt stone, features seven floors that harmonize with the natural rock formation. The palace is surrounded by lush greenery and orchards, famous for their grapes and peaches. Today, it serves as a museum and a popular tourist attraction, showcasing Yemen's rich history and unique architectural style. The site has also gained cultural significance, having been featured in Pier Paolo Pasolini's film 'The Arabian Nights'.
