Emancipation Park

Emancipation Park was purchased in 1872 by formerly enslaved Houstonians as a site for Juneteenth celebrations and is recognized as Houston's oldest park. It has served as a cultural and civic center for the city's African American community since Reconstruction and underwent major renovations that reopened the park and its facilities in 2017. The park continues to host annual Juneteenth commemorations and community programming.
