Mission San Francisco de Asís (Mission Dolores)

Founded in 1776 as Mission San Francisco de Asís, commonly called Mission Dolores, it is the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco with portions of the original adobe chapel and walls still extant. The site includes a cemetery and an 18th- and 19th-century mission complex that predates the city's urban development. The basilica and adjoining mission buildings retain historic murals and architectural fabric that document Spanish colonial California.
