Air India Building

The Air India Building is a prominent 23-storey commercial tower located in Nariman Point, Mumbai, facing the Arabian Sea. Completed in 1974 and designed by the architectural firm Johnson/Burgee, it served as the corporate headquarters for Air India until 2013. The building is notable for being the first in India to feature an escalator and has a distinctive centaur icon atop its structure. It was a target of the 1993 Bombay bombings, resulting in significant casualties. Today, while Air India has moved its headquarters to New Delhi, it retains some floors in the building, which is now part of a larger asset-monetisation strategy. The building is a landmark in Mumbai's skyline and reflects the city's architectural evolution and historical events.
