Fox Theatre backstage organ chambers and catwalks

Detroit's Fox Theatre (opened 1928) houses one of the largest theater organs ever installed in a movie palace; the organ chambers, pipe rooms, stage fly system, and service catwalks are located behind and above the ornate public auditorium and are not part of general visitor circulation. The building's backstage and mechanical spaces have been documented on limited tours and by preservationists, revealing original 1920s stagecraft infrastructure that is normally inaccessible during performances. The Fox remains an active performance venue with restricted access to these operational areas.
