Texas Medical Center - storm-drain-related flooding during Hurricane Harvey

The Texas Medical Center experienced significant flooding when unprecedented rainfall from Hurricane Harvey in August 2017 caused storm drains and nearby bayous to be overwhelmed, resulting in flooded basements and service tunnels at multiple hospitals. Several facilities in the Medical Center reported water intrusion and operational impacts that required emergency responses and repairs. The event highlighted how urban stormwater and drainage capacity can affect critical infrastructure in Houston. The Texas Medical Center and its member institutions have since participated in planning and mitigation efforts to reduce future stormwater impacts.
