Jacob Henry House

The Jacob Henry House is a historic home located in Beaufort, North Carolina, built around 1794. This Federal style dwelling features a distinctive two-tier front porch and is elevated on a ballast stone foundation. Notably, it was the residence of Jacob Henry, a significant figure who, in 1809, engaged in a pivotal debate regarding the rights of Jews to hold state office, having served in the North Carolina legislature in 1808 and 1809. The house was recognized for its historical importance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, making it an intriguing site for both tourists and researchers interested in early American history and Jewish heritage.
