Geddes (Clifford, Virginia)

Geddes is a historic home located near Clifford in Amherst County, Virginia, known as the oldest house in the area. Built in stages from around 1762 to the mid-19th century, this Colonial era frame house features post and beam construction and a hipped roof. The house is notable for its connection to Hugh Rose, a friend of Thomas Jefferson, who cared for Jefferson's family during the British raid on Charlottesville in 1781. Geddes was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in American history.
