Lemuel P. Grant Mansion

The Lemuel P. Grant Mansion, located in Atlanta's Grant Park neighborhood, is a historic Italianate house built in 1856 and one of only three antebellum homes still standing in their original locations in the city. Owned by Lemuel P. Grant, a prominent railroad figure and civic leader, the mansion is notable for its survival during the Civil War, as it was spared from destruction by Union troops due to its Masonic connections. The mansion has a rich history, including being the birthplace of golf legend Bobby Jones and a favorite of 'Gone with the Wind' author Margaret Mitchell. After years of neglect, the Atlanta Preservation Center acquired the mansion in 2001, and ongoing restoration efforts aim to preserve its historical significance and beauty.
