Waste House

Waste House, located on the University of Brighton campus, is a pioneering building constructed between 2012 and 2014 using over 90% waste materials, including items like old jeans and toothbrushes. Designed by architect Duncan Baker-Brown, this innovative structure serves as a sustainable, low-energy test-bed for students in design, architecture, and engineering. It is the first public building in Europe made primarily from waste, showcasing the potential of recycling in construction. The project involved over 300 students and apprentices, emphasizing hands-on learning in sustainable building techniques. Waste House has garnered multiple awards and continues to be a living research project, demonstrating the viability of using discarded materials in modern architecture.
