Riverlake

Riverlake is a historic plantation and antebellum mansion located in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, approximately 8 miles south of New Roads. Built in the early 19th century, this raised Creole-style house features modifications from different periods, including two pigeonniers from around 1820. It is notable as the birthplace of author Ernest Gaines, who played in the plantation's slave quarters as a child. Two surviving slave cabins are recognized on the National Register of Historic Places as the Cherie Quarters Cabins. Riverlake was added to the National Register in 1983 and remains a family-owned property.
