Lotabeg House

Lotabeg House is a historic residence located in County Cork, Ireland, built between 1780 and 1820 for Sir Richard Kellett. Designed by architect Abraham Hargrave, this elegant seven-bay, two-storey house features a domed hallway and a cantilever staircase, with stunning views of the River Lee. The estate includes a notable entrance known as 'Callaghan's Gate', which honors a heroic Irish Wolfhound. Once home to prominent families, including the Mahonys and politician Daniel Callaghan, Lotabeg House remained in the Hart family until 1939. The estate, encompassing 37 acres, was recently sold in 2022, with plans for development facing challenges. This site offers a glimpse into Ireland's rich architectural heritage and the stories of its past inhabitants.
