The Alamo (Mission San Antonio de Valero)

The Alamo, originally Mission San Antonio de Valero, was established as a Spanish mission in the early 18th century and its chapel served for Catholic worship before secularization. It was the site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. The remaining church and long barracks are preserved as a historic site and the chapel building is occasionally used for commemorative religious services and memorial events.
