Ether Dome (Massachusetts General Hospital)

The Ether Dome in the Bulfinch Building at Massachusetts General Hospital is a 19th-century surgical amphitheater where William T. G. Morton publicly demonstrated ether anesthesia on October 16, 1846. The space retains its amphitheater layout and much of its historic fabric and is interpreted by the Warren Anatomical Museum. The Ether Dome is designated a National Historic Landmark for its significance in medical history.
