Fort Negley Civil War earthwork and park

Fort Negley is a Union-built fortification constructed in 1862–63 on a hill south of downtown Nashville using labor that included formerly enslaved African Americans and Union troops. The site contains stone and earthwork remains, interpretive signage, walking trails, and a visitor center that documents the fort's Civil War history. Fort Negley is commonly described in local and historical sources as one of the largest inland stone fortifications built during the Civil War in the western theater. The park is managed by Metro Nashville and is open to the public for hiking and historical interpretation.
