Sankot Motor Company

The Sankot Motor Company, also known as the Sankot Garage, is a historic site in Belle Plaine, Iowa, significant for its role in the development of all-season travel along the Lincoln Highway, America's first transcontinental route. Built with a brick front and clay tile side walls, the building dates back to the early 20th century, with an expansion in 1927. Originally operated by O.B. Charles and Sid Sankot, it sold Chryslers and gasoline until 1944. The business changed hands several times, focusing on vehicle repairs and agricultural equipment. Recognized for its historical importance, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995 and is part of the Belle Plaine Main Street Historic District.
