IRT City Hall Station (abandoned subway station)

Opened in 1904 as the southern terminal of the original Interborough Rapid Transit (IRT) line, City Hall Station features Guastavino-tiled vaults, skylights, and an elegantly curved platform intended for the era's wooden trains. It was closed to regular passenger service in 1945 after system changes made its loop impractical, though the station remains physically intact beneath Centre Street. The New York Transit Museum and other organizations offer occasional guided tours or special-access visits to view its historic architecture and tilework.
