Cliveden (The Chew House)

Cliveden, built 1763–1767 as a Georgian manor for the Chew family, is a well-preserved stone house that saw intense combat during the 1777 Battle of Germantown. The house's original stone masonry, interior fabric, and surviving landscape elements document mid-18th-century construction and the site's role in Revolutionary War urban military infrastructure. Cliveden is a National Historic Landmark and is interpreted by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a site of architectural and wartime significance.
