Embarcadero Center (Portman commercial complex)

Embarcadero Center is a multi-tower commercial complex developed in the 1960s–1970s and designed by architect John Portman, notable for its linked plazas, pedestrian bridges, and inward-facing concourses. The interconnected office towers and retail spaces exemplify mid-century urban renewal and inward-oriented commercial design and played a significant role in consolidating office space in the Financial District. Its plazas and public passages remain a prominent example of large-scale mixed-use development from that era in San Francisco.
