Texas State Capitol (19th-century state infrastructure)

The Texas State Capitol in Austin was completed in 1888 and has served as the seat of state government since that time. Built of Texas Sunset Red granite, its dome is taller than the dome of the U.S. Capitol. The historic building and grounds were preserved through a major restoration and an underground extension completed in the 1990s to modernize utilities and visitor facilities while keeping the 19th-century exterior intact.
