Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve - coastal fossil-bearing terraces

The coastal bluffs and trails at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve expose marine terrace sediments and fossil-bearing outcrops that have yielded Pliocene and Pleistocene marine invertebrate fossils documented by geologists. These exposures are part of the regional Scripps and younger terrace formations studied in San Diego paleontology. Park regulations prohibit the removal of fossils or disturbance of geologic features within the reserve.
