Lewis and Harriet Hayden House (Underground Railroad safe house)

The Hayden House at 66 Phillips Street in Beacon Hill was the home of abolitionist Lewis Hayden and is documented as a safe house on the Underground Railroad. Hayden sheltered fugitive enslaved people and assisted them in reaching freedom in the 1850s–1860s. The house is a National Historic Landmark and is included on Boston's Black Heritage Trail.
