Hoffman Building (Davenport)

The Hoffman Building, constructed around 1855 in downtown Davenport, Iowa, was a notable example of early commercial architecture in the area. Originally home to a grocery store operated by John V. Hoffman, the building featured a distinctive steep-pitched side-gable roof and a well-preserved cast-iron shop front. A long shed roof once extended from the building to provide shelter for pedestrians. It was recognized for its historical significance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, but was unfortunately demolished in the late 20th century, along with other historic structures in the vicinity.
