Golden Gate Bridge opening and its International Orange color

The Golden Gate Bridge opened to the public on May 27, 1937 and is painted the color known as International Orange. That color was selected for improved visibility in San Francisco's frequent fog and for its complementary appearance with the natural surroundings. Fort Mason Center and the adjacent Marina Green are historically and currently cited public viewpoints used for photographing and viewing the Golden Gate Bridge.
