Second Bank of the United States (William Strickland's Greek Revival temple)

Designed by William Strickland and completed in 1824, the Second Bank of the United States on Chestnut Street is an early and influential example of Greek Revival architecture in America. The building's sandstone façade, massive Ionic columns, and temple-like form were intentionally modeled on classical prototypes to convey institutional permanence. Its form influenced 19th-century civic and financial architecture in Philadelphia and beyond. The structure is part of the Independence National Historical Park and is preserved for its architectural and historical significance.
