Thorup's Kælder

Thorup's Kælder, located in the historic Latin Quarter of Aarhus, Denmark, is a fascinating building dating back to approximately 1300, originally constructed by Cistercian monks. This listed structure, known as 'Den Grå Kannikegård', features vaulted rooms with arched brick columns and has served various purposes over the centuries. It became a bar in 1712 and has a rich history, including a period when it was run by Albert Christian Thorup, who controversially banned women from the premises. The bar has undergone renovations and continues to operate, making it a unique spot for visitors to experience a blend of history and local culture.
