Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, a Smithsonian Institution museum of modern and contemporary art, opened in 1974 following a gift from collector Joseph H. Hirshhorn. The circular concrete museum building was designed by architect Gordon Bunshaft and contains rotating exhibitions of 20th- and 21st-century art. Its adjacent Sculpture Garden displays outdoor works by international artists and links to the National Mall's museum complex. The Hirshhorn hosts public programs, performances, and educational events.
