Sayward-Wheeler House

The Sayward-Wheeler House, built around 1718 in York Harbor, Maine, is a historic house museum that offers a glimpse into colonial life. Once home to Jonathan Sayward, a prominent local merchant and civic leader, the house features furnishings from the 1760s reflecting his conservative taste. Sayward's legacy includes participation in the 1745 siege of Louisbourg and service in the Massachusetts legislature, maintaining respect despite his Tory views during the American Revolution. Preserved by his descendants, the house was opened to visitors in the 1860s, showcasing its historical significance. Today, it operates as a museum, retaining original furnishings and family portraits, providing an authentic experience of early American history.
