Oruawharo Homestead

Oruawharo Homestead is a historic Italianate building located in the Takapau Plains of New Zealand, designed by architect Charles Tringham for wealthy landowner John Johnston in the late 19th century. Originally built as a family residence, it features a stunning Palladian façade, ornate interiors, and expansive grounds that once included tennis courts and a rose garden. The homestead has a rich history, serving various roles including a Territorial Army Camp during World War I and later as a training facility for nuns. After being restored in 2000, it now operates as a function center and tourist attraction, welcoming thousands of visitors each year while retaining its heritage status as a category 1 building with Heritage New Zealand.
