Hearst Tower (Norman Foster addition)

Hearst Tower is a glass-and-steel skyscraper designed by Sir Norman Foster that opened in 2006 as a distinctive modern tower built atop the original 1928 Hearst Building base at street level. The project preserved the historic limestone and brick base while adding a diagrid-patterned tower above, creating a visually and technically notable juxtaposition of old and new architecture. Hearst Tower received LEED Gold certification and was among the early New York skyscrapers to achieve high-level sustainable-building recognition.
