Schloss Ringberg

Schloss Ringberg, a 20th-century castle nestled in the Bavarian Alps, offers a glimpse into the artistic ambitions of Duke Luitpold Emanuel Ludwig Maria of Bavaria. Located 50 km south of Munich, this private property of the Max Planck Society is not open to the public, yet it serves as a unique venue for conferences. Inspired by the fairy-tale architecture of Schloss Neuschwanstein, Ringberg was crafted by the Duke and his friend, painter Friedrich Attenhuber, who dedicated his life to its construction. The castle features a blend of Attenhuber's artistic styles, with many of his paintings adorning its walls. Despite its beauty, the castle's history is marked by tragedy, including the suicide of Attenhuber in 1947 and the Duke's lifelong struggle to complete the structure. Today, Schloss Ringberg stands as a testament to their complex relationship and the artistic legacy of the Wittelsbach family.
