Chelmsford Glass Works' Long House

The Chelmsford Glass Works' Long House, located at 139–141 Baldwin Street in Lowell, Massachusetts, is a historic tenement house built in 1802 to accommodate workers of the Chelmsford Glass Works. This unique structure, featuring a series of 1–1/2 story Cape style wood-frame houses, is recognized as one of the earliest industrial tenement buildings in the United States. Its construction was prompted by the establishment of the glass works following the opening of the Middlesex Canal, marking a significant development in the region's industrial history. The Long House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in early American industrial architecture.
